There are several veterinary requirements prior to traveling with a pet. This information will aid in the necessary preparation to help give you peace of mind.
Documents
Health Certificate
Provided by a veterinarian, this form proves the pet is safe to travel. It is not an official document. It is as simple as the pet’s information printed and signed by the veterinarian. It needs to be issued and dated within 10 days of the departure date.
Rabies Certificate
Provided by a veterinarian, this form illustrates the pet is current on the rabies vaccine. This may not be required by the airline, but is good to have up to date in case of emergency.
Vaccines
Vaccinations and the documentation of thereof may be required by the airline, depending on their regulations. Having them are helpful in emergency situations.
Dog Vaccinations & Tests
Rabies vaccine
DHLPP-CVK: A multivalent vaccine protecting against multiple diseases including distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis (optional), parainfluenza, and parvovirus
Bordatella: A vaccine intended to prevent against kennel cough
Negative Fecal Worm Test; if the test is positive you may be required to show proof of treatment
Puppies must be up to date on vaccinations determined by age
Cat Vaccinations & Tests
Rabies vaccine
FVRCP: A multivalent vaccine protecting against multiple diseases such as Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calici Virus, and Panleukopenia
Feline Leukemia Vaccination
Negative Fecal Worm Test; if the test is positive you may be required to show proof of treatment
Kittens must be up to date on vaccinations determined by age
